The Project
The ‘‘PROMETHEUS Energy Corridor’’ is an integrated Research Infrastructure (RI), highly accessible and extrovert, with nationwide reach and internationally recognized, that will be the field of development and experimental testing of innovative materials and processes for environmentally friendly and energy efficient applications.
The main mission of PROMETHEUS is to contribute to the creation of the critical bridge between the research and production sector, contributing to the effective transformation of the latter, through the utilization of existing and new know-how and using the highly trained technical and scientific personnel of both sectors towards sustainable development and social prosperity.
PROMETHEUS aims to create a solid foundation for maximizing the success of the project and it includes defining procedures for the effective completion of activities, through targeted upgrading of equipment and infrastructure related to energy processes of reduced/zero carbon footprint, green mobility actions and methods/units of production of advanced materials through utilization of appropriate raw materials.
PROMETHEUS places emphasis on three areas:
(i) solar thermochemical technologies and application of solar technologies in traditional energy production processes for the production of renewable energy carriers (from water, carbon dioxide, biomass and waste) in the form of liquid and gaseous fuels.
(ii) Innovative material technologies for the production of the basic elements of said chain such as high temperature reactors, catalysts, fuel cells, batteries, membranes etc.
(iii) Evaluation of chain systems and subsystems with emphasis on green mobility technologies (efficient and clean vehicles, intelligent transport systems, intelligent fleet management systems) as well as clean energy technologies (electricity, heat, clean water and combinations).
The Work Plan of PROMETHEUS is divided into twelve (12) Work Packages (WPs). The nine (9) WPs concern activities related to the upgrade of equipment and infrastructure of research and development related to the objectives of the project "Energy Corridor-PROMETHEUS", while one (1) WP concerns the utilization of the infrastructure and its results, as well as the Ensuring User Access, one (1) in extroversion with emphasis on the promotion and international recognition of PROMETHEUS and finally, one (1) WP concerns the governance the proposed infrastructure, which is directly related to the management and organization of the project:
